Grand Valley State women's golf coach Lori Stinson was named the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Coach of the Year. Stinson, who just completed her fifth season, led the Lakers to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the third time in four years. Grand Valley placed sixth at the 2004 National Championships.
Stinson led the Lakers to their second consecutive GLIAC Championship this season and was named the GLIAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year. She also earned the title in 2002.
Junior Melissa Sneller, a Zeeland, Michigan native, was named to the NGCA Division II All-American First Team. She tied for 12th place in the nation, with a four-day score of 312 (79, 76, 80, 77). Sneller, the 2004 GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Year, claimed the 2004 GLIAC Championship medalist honors by tallying a two-day total of 148 (74-74). Sneller finished in fourth place at the GLIAC Championships in 2003 and tied for second place as a freshman in 2002.
Sophomore Kristi Vienneau (Bathurst, N.B. Canada) earned NGCA Division II All-American Honorable Mention honors. She finished 23rd overall at the Championships, shooting a 322 (82, 82, 76, 82). Vienneau was a All-GLIAC First Team selection, finished fifth at the GLIAC Championships and fourth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Tournament.
