Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State opened its 2002-2003 women's golf season with a third place finish at the Ferris State Bulldog Fall Invitational over the weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) as they posted a 645 for the two day event. Ferris State won the tournament with a 624 and Nebraska-Omaha placed second after shooting 641. The Lakers shot 317 in the opening 18-holes on Saturday and when into the second day of action in second place only two shots off the pace. GVSU posted a team score of 328 on Sunday and fell back to third.
Freshman Kristi Vienneau paced the Lakers in her GVSU debut with a 158, by shooting 77 on Saturday and an 81 on Sunday. Vienneau ended up fifth in the individual standings. Also posting scores for the Lakers were Melissa Sneller and Melissa Reagle who both shot 163 and tied for 12. Shannon Briggs finished in 15 position with a 164 while Ellie Saladin shot 167 and placed 23rd.
The Lakers will host the GVSU Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 2-3) at The Meadows.
