Grand Valley State's women's golf team is tied for second place with Ferris State after 36 holes of play on day one in the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship hosted at the Meadows Golf Course. The Lakers tallied a two-round score of 646 and trail leader Northern Kentucky (641) by five strokes.
Senior Melissa Sneller is tied for second place overall after recording a 159 (79, 80). Junior Enid Gage shot a 160 (81, 79), which ties her for fifth place. Junior Laura Leatherman posted a 163 (84, 79), finishing the day in 10th place, while sophomore Kate MacDonald is right behind her in 11th place as she finished the day with a 164 (80, 84). Junior Kristi Vienneau rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with a 172 for 19th place.
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday, May 3. The top two teams and the top individual not from one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships in New Mexico May 11-14.
