Ashland, Ohio - 12th-ranked Grand Valley State claimed a key 72-55 road victory over Ashland University (7-8, 2-4) Thursday (Jan. 9) evening. GVSU moves to 15-1 overall and 6-1 in GLIAC action.

GVSU built a 31-25 lead after 20 minutes of action, and outscored the Eagles 41-30 in second half to claim the 17 point win. GVSU shot 65 percent (20-31) over the final 20 minutes and 52 percent for the game. The Lakers limited AU to just 36 percent from the field and held an impressive 43-29 edge in rebounding.

Senior guard Laurie Rehmann led GVSU with 17 points, while Julie Zeeff added 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Cori Jewett chipped in 12 points and Jennifer Nielsen notched seven points, seven rebounds six assists and three steals. Diana Voikos tallied eight points and seven caroms, while Janine Guastella scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds. Grand Valley State did not shoot free throw in the first half and was 0-3 in the second half.

Grand Valley State, ranked third in the latest NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional rankings, will be off until January 18th (Saturday) when West Michigan and GLIAC rival Ferris State pays a visit to the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena for a 6 p.m. matchup.
