Grand Valley State tallied a 37-19 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 68-40 victory over West Michigan rival Ferris State Saturday night. The Lakers improve to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC action. GVSU will host Wayne State on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on Comcast Local.

The Lakers held the Bulldogs to just 26.5% shooting in the first half and forced 12 turnovers as they took an 18-point lead after 20 minutes of action. Junior forward Niki Reams posted 16 points and eight rebounds in the first half en route to her 18-point, 15 rebound performance.

GVSU forced Ferris State to shoot just 26.7% from the field in the game, while the Lakers shot 43.9%. Grand Valley also outrebounded FSU by a 49-35 margin.

Senior guard Janine Guastella recorded 12 points and four assists, while sophomore guard Erika Ryskamp added 10 points and three assists. Sophomore forward Julia Braseth, freshman guard Crystal Zick, and sophomore guard Taushauna Churchwell all tallied six points for the Lakers.
