Scott Banister is set to begin his first year as the graduate assistant for the Grand Valley State women's basketball team.
His duties include coordinating community outreach programs and organizing team travel plans. He is a post player coach, where he teaches player development both on and off the court. Banister also is in charge of running the team camps and golf outing. Scott assists the recruiting coodinator with prospective college student-athletes and is responsible for overseeing the filming, editing, and tape exchange.
Prior to this season, Banister served as a student assistant for the Laker women's basketball team for the last four years. Scott has been a certified recruiter for three years and was part of the staff that led the Lakers to the school's first-ever NCAA National Championship in women's basketball. Banister created individual workouts for players and also served as a practice player. He maintained and ordered equipment and established the selling of women's basketball apparel during home games.
During the past three summers, Banister has worked as a camp counselor at both Central Michigan and Grand Valley State. He coached campers in different games and contests, created and directed drills and stations, and officiated camp games as a referee. Scott also assisted with breakfast preparations for more than 200 campers, supervised campers during meals and in the dorms, and oversaw the merchandise sales at camps hosted by Grand Valley State.
Banister graduated from Grand Valley State with a Bachelors of Science in Corporate Fitness & Wellness. He is currently working on his master's degree at GVSU in Education with an emphasis in College Student Affairs Leadership.
