The Grand Valley State men's cross country team is ranked #2 in the Great Lakes Regional and #8 in the nation. The Lakers will open the 2003 season at the Aquinas Open (Riverside Park in Grand Rapids) on Friday, September 12 at 5:00 p.m.

The Lakers are looking for a group of sophomores to set the pace for the 2003 season. Mark Terpstra, Blake Terhune, Casey Abston, Andy Duemling will look to use their experience from the past to set the tone for the season. Terpstra was the 2002 GLIAC Freshman Runner of the Year, he is also one of the top returners in the region and in nation from last season.

"The men are progessing nicely and I feel we are right where we need to be training wise," said Baltes. "In am excited to see where everyone's fitness lies in their first race of the season."

"I am very excited pleased with the leadership and focus we are getting out of this group of student-athletes," concluded Baltes.
