Camp Information

Camp Philosophy:
Give athletes the knowledge and understanding of distance running in a fun and motivational atmosphere in order to prepare the athletes to have success in future seasons. Train with runners from around the Midwest, learn from collegiate coaches on practical and technical aspects and listen to speakers that have experienced the Olympics and the top levels of running.

Camp Staff:
GVSU Head Coach Jerry Baltes:
Camp director Jerry Baltes has led the Grand Valley State University distance program to national prominence in the seven years he has been at the helm. GVSU's women's team recorded its best finish in school history in 2005, taking second place overall. Senior Mandi Zemba won the school's first-ever individual National Championship title. The men's team placed fourth, which was also their highest finish ever.

The women's cross country team placed fourth at the national championships in 2004 and third the previous two seasons. Jerry has coached 16 Cross Country All-Americans in his tenure with the Lakers. In track, Baltes has also coached two national champions in his time at Grand Valley, Mandi (Long) Zemba in the 1500 and Steph Kuhlman in the 800.
