Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State is ranked #1 nationally in the first power rankings for men's and women's indoor track that was released on Wednesday (Feb. 26). The Lakers are the defending GLIAC Champions and both teams finished in the top 12 in last years NCAA DII Championship. The power rankings take into account the times for the top two athletes in each event and give a point total. The points for the team are totaled to decide the rankings. The GVSU men are first with 149.5, while the women lead the nation with 144.81. The Lakers participate in the 2003 GLIAC Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday at Saginaw Valley State.

The Laker men rank two points ahead of second place South Dakota, with the closest regional competition being Ashland in seventh with 137 points. The women are only a half-point ahead of Nebraska-Omaha. Ashland is also the second highest ranked Great Lakes region team in 11th with 117 points.
