The GVSU men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the GLIAC Tournament with a 5-0 shutout of Findlay. The Lakers claimed all three doubles matches and needed to play just two singles matches to take the victory. GVSU will face Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon in the second round. Mercyhurst knocked off Michigan Tech, 5-0 in its first round matchup.
The Lakers got off to a quick start in doubles play. In the No. 1 spot, the team of Adam Sandusky and Tony Dang picked up an 8-2 win over Travis Whipple and Jitrat Jaidee. Alex Switzer and Matt Globerson also recorded an 8-2 win over Jeremy Jackson and Matt Thomas in No. 3 doubles. Rounding out the doubles victories for Grand Valley were Patrick Troy and Justin Sauerbrey as they won easily, 8-1.
GVSU needed to finish just two singles matches in order to ensure the victory and it was a pair of freshman that led the way. Dang defeated Michael Sarno, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 2 doubles spot. Troy made quick work of Steven Fox, winning 6-2, 6-0. Adam Sandusky, Matt Globerson, Ryan Diebold, and Justin Sauerbrey's matches were all left unfinished.
