Grand Valley State fell, 81-80, in a close contest against GLIAC opponent Mercyhurst College. GVSU has lost four straight GLIAC games, dropping to 10-5 overall and 2-4 in GLIAC play.

GVSU held a 43-39 lead at halftime, but couldn't hold on in the second half as they were outscored, 42-37. Grand Valley tallied two turnovers and a missed shot in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Three Lakers recorded 19 points each, accounting for 57 of the GVSU's 80 points. Junior center Eric Chess tallied a career-high 19 points, five rebounds, and three blocks, while junior guard Marcus Wallace added 19 points and six rebounds. Senior forward Melvin White tied his career-high with 19 points, connecting on five three-pointers. Freshman forward Mike Hall added 10 points for GVSU.

Grand Valley will host Gannon University in another GLIAC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3:00 p.m. at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game will be televised on WXSP.
