PALO ALTO, Calif. -The Gonzaga University women's tennis team opened play at the ITA Regional in Palo Alto, Calif. Friday.

In the first round of singles the Bulldogs dropped all four matches. Senior Sirrah Williams was defeated by the University of California, Davis' Cynthia Kitch in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5. Freshman Amanda Becker was handed a loss by Sacramento State University's Cecilia Helland, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Kendall Bates was defeated by Washington State University's Chris Martinez, 6-2, 6-3 and freshman Angela Fry was defeated by the University of Washington's Saskia Nauenbery, 6-1, 6-3.

Bulldogs doubles action recorded two first round losses as well. Gonzaga's duo of Bates/Williams were defeated by WSU's Martinez and Orsolya Salli, 8-4. The Bulldog team of Becker/Fry were defeated by the University of San Francisco's Anna Skogerboe and Emma Taylor, 9-8 (4).

All the Bulldogs will be back in action in a consolation bracket Saturday as they continue play at in the ITA Regionals in Palo Alto, Calif. Play will resume at 8 a.m.
