Box Score

FRESNO, Calif. - Kari Arnason scored two goals and assisted on a third as Gonzaga University's men's soccer team snapped its three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Sacramento State University on Sunday in the Goal Rush Classic hosted by Fresno State University.

In scoring his first two goals of the season, Arnason earned Attacking MVP accolades as Gonzaga finished second in the tournament with a 1-1-0 record. The Bulldogs earned second by virtue of a 4-2 goals advantage over Alabama A&M, also 1-1-0 in the tournament. Host FSU won its tournament for the 13th time in 22 years with a 2-0 win over Alabama A&M in Sunday's nightcap. Goalkeeper Eric Kronberg of FSU was named Defensive MVP. He allowed just one goal in two matches, that in a 2-1 win over Gonzaga on Friday.

Arnason scored his first goal at 21:32 on a 5-yard shot off a cross from Scott Bertram. His second goal at 31:33, unasissted from 25 yards, gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 halftime lead. Freshman Luke Miller scored his first collegiate goal at 67:04 for the 3-0 advantage, deflecting Arnason's pass in the box.

Unlike the previous three matches when the Bulldogs surrendered second-half leads in losing, Gonzaga kept the Hornets (2-4-1) in check by allowing just one shot on goal in the second half. Freshman keeper Vito Higgins made two saves in recording his second complete-game shutout of the season. He has also shared one other shutout this season.

Gonzaga will be on the road again next week at the UNLV Tournament to face the University of New Mexico and host UNLV. The Bulldogs return home Oct. 4 to face the University of Portland in the West Coast Conference opener.
