CAMDEN, NJ - Heat assignments were announced for the this week's IRA National Championships as the Gonzaga University men's crew program will compete in two events. The Bulldogs have entered a Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ in the championships which run June 1-3 at Cooper River in Camden, NJ. Gonzaga finished seventh in the nation in the Varsity 4+ last season and has never raced a Novice 8+ at the IRA's.

Gonzaga's Novice 8+ will take to the water at 8:36 a.m. on Thursday morning competing against crews from Cornell, George Washington, Princeton, Saint Joseph's and Washington. The Bulldogs lost to Washington in early May at the Opening Day Regatta in Seattle and defeated George Washington last Saturday in a race in Washington D.C. The top two boats from each of the four morning heats advances to Friday's semifinals. All other boats will race again on Thursday afternoon for semifinal spots.

The Bulldogs Varsity 4+ races at 10:12 a.m. on Thursday morning with MIT, Penn, Saint Joseph's and Syracuse rounding out the Gonzaga heat. This will be Gonzaga's first action against any of these crews. GU did race on Saturday morning against a Varsity 4+ from George Washington that was comprised of the top four rowers from the Colonials Varsity 8+ boat that is also racing at the IRA's. All four rowers in this year's Varsity 4+ have previous IRA experience with all four rowing in boats that placed seventh at last year's championships. The top two boats from each of the four morning heats advances to Friday's semifinals. All other boats will race again on Thursday afternoon for semifinal spots.
