First, Gencsoy Named Atlantic 10 All-Conference

April 28, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - Seniors Lindy First (San Diego, CA/La Jolla) and Nazli Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lycee de Galatasaray) were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team on Wednesday, April 28 after voting was conducted by the league's head coaches. This is the second selection for First, who was also named All-Conference as a freshman, and the first selection for Gencsoy.

First finished the season with a 13-11 record playing primarily in the number one slot, after battling back from a wrist injury that sidelined her almost all of last season. She finished her career at GW with a 35-26 singles record. First also helped GW this season by securing eight doubles wins.

Gencsoy also had an excellent season for the Colonials, finishing 16-7 while playing mostly in the number two position. She will leave GW with a career mark of 46-34. The 5'6" senior from Turkey was dominant in doubles play this season with 13 victories against only four losses.

These two led a young squad to a fifth-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Tournament and an 8-7 record overall. Head coach Megan Wise will certainly miss the pair as GW women's tennis moves on to the 2004-05 season.
