Women's Tennis Posts Back-to-Back Victories Over Temple, James Madison

March 27, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's tennis team recorded back-to-back victories over the weekend as it defeated Temple, 5-2, in an A-10 Conference match on Friday, March 24 at Montclair Country Club, before edging James Madison, 4-3, on Saturday in non-conference action at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility.

With the victories, GW improves its overall record to 4-6, 1-1 in conference play.

Seniors Anastasia Skavronskaia (Miami, FL) and Sandra Simunic (Westerville, OH) each won both of their singles matches in straight sets and teamed together at No. 1 doubles as well to record a pair of victories to lead the Colonials in both contests. Sophomore Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) also won both of her singles matches in straight sets at the fourth position.

Against Temple, GW won the doubles point winning 2-of-3 matches and posted four victories in singles play for the final margin. On Saturday playing their first match of the season at Mount Vernon, the Colonials had to battle back against the Dukes after dropping the doubles point and did so by recording singles wins at the first through fourth spots in the lineup.

The Colonials (4-6, 1-1) are back on the court when they face Xavier on Saturday, April 1 at 5 p.m. in Pittsburgh, PA, at Duquesne. GW turns around and faces the Dukes the very next day at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
