BUFFALO, NY - Senior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) and freshman David Zenk (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day School) each recorded first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke for George Washington University Friday night in the third day of the Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College.

Moss, who's been hampered by a shoulder injury and listed as doubtful for competition, won the women's 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.12 seconds, earning all-conference in the process.

Zenk recorded his second all-conference nod in as many days, taking the men's 100-yard backstroke in 50.61 seconds. The freshman also won the 200-yard individual medley on Thursday.

Team-wise, the Colonials women's squad moved from ninth place into eighth and the men dropped from sixth place into seventh with one more day of competition remaining.

The Massachusetts men held off a charge from St. Bonaventure and clings to a 4.5- point advantage. The Bonnies inched closer by scoring 276 points on the day for a total of 488, making it a two-way race heading into the final day.

The Richmond women remain comfortably in first place with a 199-point lead.

The rest of the order of the men stands as Xavier in third place with 297.5 points, La Salle (292), Fordham (265), Duquesne (246), George Washington (207), Rhode Island (130) and St. Louis (130).

The rest of the order of the women stands as Massachusetts holding on to third with 283 points. Following is Duquesne (272), Xavier (263), St. Louis (235), Fordham (203), George Washington (165), La Salle (126) and Rhode Island (87).

 

 

The final day of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships will get underway Saturday with preliminary events starting at 9:15 a.m. and the finals set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
