Five Colonials Named to 2001 Atlantic 10 Preseason Soccer Teams

Three men, two Women garner All-Conference honors.

July 13, 2001

WASHINGTON, DC (July 12, 2001) - The Atlantic 10 released the 2001 Preseason women1s and men1s soccer All-Conference teams, naming five Colonials to the two rosters.

On the women1s team, George Washington University incoming freshmen Lindsay Bruno (Kensington, CT/The Loomis Chaffee School) and Kelly Lawten (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made the All-Rookie Team. Bruno and Lawten were both members of the world-class United States Youth Soccer Association Under-16 national championship team.

The men1s honorees include three of GW1s four 2000 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team members. 2000 A10 First Team member, junior Matt Osborne (Bingham, Notts, England/Toothill Comprehensive School), 2000 A10 Second Team member, senior Matt Pilkington(Manchester, England/Sheffield Hallam Univ.) and A-10 All-Rookie Team member sophomore Sean Ross (Tacarigua, Trinidad/St. Mary1s) were selected by the A10 for the preseason team.

Osborne was second overall in scoring in the conference last season, netting 15 goals and two assists for a total of 32 points. Pilkington notched 16 points last year, and will anchor the midfield this season. Ross made his presence known in the 2000 season, patrolling the Colonials1 backfield, and starting in every match.
