FAIRFAX, VA - George Washington fell behind nationally ranked George Mason 10-0 at the half as the No. 20 Patriots topped the Colonials 13-4 Tuesday evening.
The Colonials (4-12, 0-7) finished their inaugural season with their game against the Patriots, holding the strong GMU team to three scores through the first 20 minutes of the game. However, the Patriots would explode for seven goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 10-0 lead into the break.
GW scored the first two goals of the second half as freshman Meghan McDonough netted both scores within the first six minutes. The Patriots struck back with three unanswered scores, extending their lead to 13-2.
The Colonials added two scores in the waning minutes of the game as freshmen Jamie Lee and Heidi Mayer found the back of the net to make the final score, 13-4.
McDonough led the Colonial with two goals and an assist, with Mayer and Lee adding a goal apiece.
