DALLAS, TX - The fifth-seeded George Washington women's basketball team makes its third NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance on Sunday against top-seeded North Carolina at Reunion Arena in Dallas, TX. The game will air live on ESPN2 at approximately 9:30 pm EDT.

No. 14/13 GW (28-3) faces No. 2/2 North Carolina for the fourth time overall and third time in the NCAA Tournament. The Colonials toppled the top-seeded Tar Heels, 55-46, in the 1997 Round of 16 in Columbia, SC, to make their lone Elite Eight appearance.

The two teams met in Chapel Hill two years ago in the second round, with No. 1-seed UNC advancing with a 71-47 victory over ninth-seeded GW. A total of 10 players who appeared in that game, five from each team, return for this Sunday's clash, including standout point guards Kimberly Beck and Ivory Latta.

GW matched the school-record for victories in a season by defeating Boise State (76-67) and Texas A&M (59-47) in the first and second rounds of the tournament last weekend in Los Angeles. Sophomore Jessica Adair recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 21 rebounds against the Broncos. Adair's 21 boards were the second-most in program history, tied for the fourth-most in NCAA Tournament history and were the most in the NCAA postseason since UNC's Charlotte Smith, now an assistant with the Tar Heels, grabbed 23 in the 1994 national title game.

Junior Kimberly Beck paved the way with 18 points in the second-round victory over the fourth-seeded Aggies. The win was head coach Joe McKeown's third in four tries against long-time friend Gary Blair and improved McKeown to 16-15 in 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, 16-13 in 14 trips with GW.

No. 2/2 North Carolina (32-3) rolled over Prairie View, 95-38, in the first round before staging a come-from-behind 60-51 second-round win versus Notre Dame in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The Tar Heels are led by Latta, who, like Beck, is one of 11 final nominees for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which goes to the nation's top point guard.

The University's Spirit Department has organized a Sunday viewing party in Columbian Square, located on the first floor of the Marvin Center at 800 21st Street, NW, between H and Eye Streets. Also, for those in attendance Sunday there will be a pre-game reception at the Hyatt Regency Dallas's Lookout in Reunion Tower from 5:00-6:30 pm CDT. To RSVP for the reception, please email Nicole Early at gwspirit@gwu.edu or call 202-246-7133.
