Tech-Georgia Baseball Game Nets $65,000 For Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

June 4, 2003

ATLANTA -

The Georgia Tech-Georgia baseball game on May 13 at Turner Field has netted more than $65,000 for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the organization has announced.

All proceeds from the event will be directed to a fund established at the AFLAC Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to purchase a much needed intra-operative MRI, of which there is only one other in North America (Vancouver).

Paid attendance for the doubleheader, which also included a high school game between Lassiter and Parkview, was 8,701. With the additional tickets out through sponsorships, over 10,000 tickets were distributed in the community.

"Our goal is to make this the premiere college baseball game in the country," said Shelton Stevens, director of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Sports Network. "We want to surpass the 20,000 fans that attended the LSU/Tulane game in the Super Dome. I honestly believe we can approach that number next year."
