Fox, Bulldogs Open Season With 87-53 Win
ATHENS, Ga. --- Mark Fox made his first appearance on the Georgia sideline Friday, leading his Georgia Bulldogs to an 87-53 exhibition victory over the visiting North Georgia Saints. The win was the Dogs’ lone preseason showcase before beginning the season next Friday, November 13th, against the University of New Orleans Privateers.
"I thought it was a good opening exhibition game," said Fox. “Our team did a lot of things tonight that we were very pleased with, but there are many things we’ll have to work on to continue to get better."
Leading the Bulldogs in scoring on the evening was sophomore guard Travis Leslie, who made the most out of his new role in Fox’s triangle offense to score 21 points in 20 minutes of action.
Three other Bulldogs finished in double figures, as sophomore forward Trey Thompkins added eleven and Drazen Zlovaric and Ebuka Anayorah contributed with ten points apiece. Thompkins’ solid night saw him add eight rebounds and two blocks, falling one board behind junior forward Chris Barnes who led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds.
Fox’s Stegeman Coliseum debut was witnessed by a raucous crowd of 4,580 Georgia fans, an impressive number for an exhibition contest and a testament to the positive sentiments building on campus for Fox and the ’09-’10 Georgia Bulldogs. Next Friday’s game against New Orleans tips at 7:00 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum, and can be heard on the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network or online at www.georgiadogs.com.
