Towson, Md. - The Lady Netters competed in the Tiger Classic this past weekend at Towson. Coach Steve Curtis had this to say following the tournament. "I was very pleased with our first outing of this season. We were playing shorthanded and some young players really stepped up and performed very well."

Freshman Stacey Berlinger lost her opening match against K. Hallahan from Mount St. Mary's 4-6, 4-6 but then finshed with 3 wins. Berlinger defeated St. Joe's No. 1 player, S. Velazquez 6-4, 7-6, then teamed with Lindsay Gray to defeat the John's Hopkins team of D. Blass and T. Green 6-2, 5-7, 10-6. Stacey closed out her weekend by defeating Loyola's No. 1 player Caitlin Day 6-1, 6-2.

Freshman Sarah Dieffenbach had a good outing while fighting a nagging cold. Even though she lost her opening match against Mount St. Mary's C. Johnson 2-6, 0-6, she bounced back by defeating Towson's K. Young 6-0, 6-2. But fell to John's Hopkins No. 1 player Anita Bhamidipahi 2-6, 0-6 in her final match.

Senior Julia Moscato opened with a loss to Mount St. Mary's Emily Bolchoz 0-6, 3-6 then defeated St. Joe's DiGiacomo 6-2, 1-6, 10-5. Moscato was then defeated by E. Berlinghof from J. Hopkins 3-6, 0-6. Moscato and teammate Sidney Cooper finished with a loss in doubles competition when they were defeated by Loyola's L. Cassle/A. Keyser-Baker.

Freshman Aryn Christman was a very pleasant surprise by going 3-1 in singles. Aryn lost her first match against the Mount St. Mary's Emma Haley 6-4, 0-6, 4-10, but then went on to defeat Mullany from St. Joseph's 1-6, 6-2, 11-9, Gurano of John's Hopkins 0-6, 6-3, 10-3 and K. Swan form Loyola 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

The Lady Netters will travel to Shepherd University on September 21 for a dual match.
