Ballester Extends Win Streak in Mason Loss

Fairfax, Va. - After two wins this week over Coppin State and Mt. St. Mary's, the Lady Netters were faced with a fierce challenger in UMBC. The Lady Netters could not extend their win streak to three matches though, as they fell to a very strong UMBC team, 1-6.

UMBC swept doubles play, as Meridith Cutchin and Jen Kramer played the closest doubles match for the Lady Netters, losing by a score of 5-8. Maricel Ballester extended her personal win streak in single play to four matches at the No. 1 position, as she defeated Alice Chen, 7-5, 6-2. UMBC took the No. 2 through No. 6 singles matches, all in two sets.

The Lady Netters overall record now stands at 4-10 as they travel to Harrisonburg on Tuesday to play James Madison.

Doubles
1) Maricel Ballester & Alex LaCoste  lost 1-8 to Chen/Cette
2) Julie Moscato & Alicia Van Zandt  lost 2-8 to Anderson/Fonseca
3) Meredith Cutchin & Jen Kramer  lost 5-8 to Adewumi/Couto

Singles 1) Ballester won 7-5, 6-2 over Alice Chen 2) LaCoste lost 1-6, 0-6 to Joy Adewumi 3) Moscato lost 3-6, 2-6 to Pasqeuline Cette 4) Cutchin lost 3-6, 2-6 to Adriana Fonseca 5) Ellen Mathis lost 0-6, 0-6 to Barbara Couto 6) Claudia Antezano lost 0-6, 0-6 to Elizabeth Anderson
