Women's Tennis Loses to #54 VCU at CAA Championship

April 23, 2005

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 22, 2005) - The top four seeds in the 2005 CAA Women's Tennis Championship all moved on in quarterfinal action Friday at Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va. Virginia Commonwealth proved why they are ranked nationally and a #2 seed, defeating #7 seed George Mason, 4-0.

VCU rolled to a pair of 8-0 victories to capture the doubles point as the #2 team of Alexa Korotkevich/Cristina Arribas and the #3 pair of Vera Petrashevitch/Viktoria Konstantinova came out on top. The Rams also cruised in singles action as #4 Petrashevitch defeated Mason's senior Jamie Delorie 6-1, 6-0, #5 Camille Ripert beat senior Katie Sloper 6-0, 6-0 and #6 Korotkevich downed Melissa Wooten 6-0, 6-0. VCU, which is ranked #54 nationally, has played in the last three CAA title matches.

In other action at the CAA Championship top-seeded William & Mary blanked #9 Towson 4-0, #3 Old Dominion knocked off #6 Delaware 4-1 and #4 UNC Wilmington was a 4-0 winner over #5 James Madison. The winners advance to Saturday's semifinals at 10 a.m. where W&M will meet UNCW and VCU will take on ODU.
