VILLANOVA, Pa. - One doubles match proved to be the difference on Thursday afternoon as the Patriots women's tennis team defeated host Villanova 4-3, at the Villanova Tennis Complex. Mason won two of the three doubles matches, which gave the Patriots its winning point as each team won three singles matches.

Mason won two of the first three matches at the singles positions. Junior Andreea Fusea took the top singles honors defeating Candice Carlin, 6-3, 7-6, and Maricel Ballester defeated Courtney Flezzani, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Jenn Dektas was defeated by Leighann Reilly at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3.

Senior Katie Sloper didn't win a game in her opening set against Lindsey Puchyr, but fought hard and came back to claim the victory, 0-6, 6-3, 6-2. Villanova's Zoe Murray battled to a 7-6, 6-4 win over Julia Moscato at No. 6 singles. Morgan Flezzani won at No. 4 singles, defeating Mason's Jamie Delorie, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, Fusea and Ballester won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, and Dektas and Delorie won a close No. 2 match, 8-6. The wildcats Morgan Flezzani and Puchyr teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 3 singles against Mason's Sloper and Moscato.

The women return to action on Friday, March 25, when they travel to CAA foe Delaware.
