Mason Lacrosse Returns Home to Host No. 10 Georgetown

March 6, 2007

FAIRFAX, Va. - After hitting the road to play its last game against in-state rival Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., the George Mason women's lacrosse team returns home to face the 10th-ranked team in the nation in the latest IWLCA poll, the Georgetown Hoyas, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium. The game will be the first of the season for the Patriots at George Mason Stadium, as they played their home opener at Robinson Field on March 1.

Mason enters Wednesday's nonconference matchup with a 1-2 overall record after splitting a pair of games this past week. The Patriots dominated American 15-9 in their home opener on Thursday before falling to Virginia Tech by a single goal, 8-7, on Sunday.

Freshman midfielder Kelly Davis had a huge week, scoring seven goals in those two games. Against American, she led all players with five goals, and in the loss at Virginia Tech, she had two goals and an assist for three points. On the season, Davis leads the team in points (9), goals (8) and free-position goals (2).

The Hoyas enter the midweek matchup with a 1-1 record early in the 2007 campaign. Georgetown lost to defending CAA Champion James Madison 14-10 in its season opener before bouncing back with an 11-8 win against Oregon on March 2. Wednesday's game will be the first time the Hoyas have hit the road during the 2007 season.

Sophomore midfielder Jordan Trautman was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career for her performance in Georgetown's victory against Oregon. She recorded one draw control and a team-high four caused turnovers as the GU defensive unit allowed just 13 Duck shots in the game. Trautman leads the squad with six caused turnovers this season and as a team, the Hoyas lead the Big East averaging 16 caused turnovers per game.

Tickets to Wednesday's game will cost $5 for adults and $2 for youth and senior citizens. All full-time enrolled students will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
