Volleyball Suffers Tough Five-Game Loss to UNC Greensboro

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman Paladin volleyball team lost a hard-fought match tonight against the Spartans of UNC Greensboro. After coming back from a 0-2 deficit, the Paladins lost the match 3-2.

Furman dropped the first two games by scores of 30-28 and 30-26, due to Greensboro's 19 kills and .240 team hitting percentage in the first game and .390 clip in the second.

However, the Paladins battled back to win the third game 32-30, led by Chibuzo Aguocha's 6 kills and 3 solo blocks. In an extremely close fourth game, Furman managed a 33-31 win over the Spartans.

The fifth game proved too much for the Paladins, as the Spartans took an early 7-3 lead, and went on to take the game 15-9.

The Spartans were led by sophomore Branagan Fuller's 32 kills and sophomore Catherine Hanners' 39 digs.

The Paladins were led by outsider hitters Aguocha and Alison West, who both recorded double-doubles for the match. Aguocha tallied 22 kills and 18 digs, and also added 6 blocks, while West notched 20 kills and 16 digs.

With the loss, the Paladins fall to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Conference, while UNCG improves to 11-8 and 4-1 in the league. The Paladins take the court again on Tuesday in a match at Davidson.
