Lady Paladins Down Wofford 6-1

Spartanburg, SC - The Furman women's tennis team improved to 11-3, 4-0 in the Southern Conferece, Thursday afternoon with a 7-0 win over the Wofford Terriers at the Reeves Tennis Center. With the loss Wofford falls to 6-7, 3-2 in conference play.

Furman opened doubles by winning all three matches to take the early 1-0 lead. No.51 Caroline Bentley and Mary Neill Hagood downed Ellen Rogers and Sarah Shelley 8-3 at No.1 while Jacqueline Eckert teamed with Marti Morris to defeat Tara Hartness and Adriane Hodges 8-1. In the third match Lauren Osborne and Shannon Moore eased by Delaine Hare and Lauren Prickett 8-0. Furman then went on to win five out of six singles matches to capture the 6-1 victory.

Today's match also marked the inaugural Pinson Challenge Trophy contest. The trophy, named in honor of Bob Pinson, will be presented to the winner of the two schools' women's tennis regular-season match for 15 years.

The Lady Paladins return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they take on Old Dominion in Raleigh, NC. Match time is set for 11 AM.
