The Lady Paladins look to get back on the winning track when they challenge conference-foe College of Charleston at John Kresse Arena on Monday, Feb. 5. The game is scheduled to tip at 10:30 a.m., as CofC is hosting "Education Day". Over 800 students from Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester County schools will be in attendance.
Furman leads the all-time series with CofC, 19-8. The Cougars topped the Paladins in the season's first meeting at Timmons Arena, 52-49. Furman held a lead of as many as 13 points in that contest, but CofC rallied from behind to drop the Paladins. Furman's Melissa Liebschwager scored a career-high 16 points on 5-of-7 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. The Cougars were led by Erica Smith's 14 points.
The Lady Paladins are coming off a home loss to UNC Greensboro. After trailing by as many as 18 points in the second half, Furman used a 12-0 run to cut the Spartans' lead to 50-44 with six minutes remaining in Saturday's contest. UNCG quickly pushed its advantage back to 12 points on the strength of three straight layups, and the visitors held on for the 65-58 win. Greensboro's Kaleah Latham scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the contest. The Lady Paladins were led by freshman Kali Holtfreter with 12 points. Holtfreter has now scored in double figures in four consecutive games.
College of Charleston is coming off a 41-39 home loss to Wofford. The Cougars have dropped five of the last six contests and currently sit at 5-7 in the Southern Conference.
