Furman, Louisville Draw 0-0 In Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman goalkeeper Alex Maslow totaled four saves and Louisville keeper Tyler Wilcox recorded six saves as the Paladins and Cardinals played to a scoreless tie on day one of the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational in front of a crowd of 1,302 at Stone Soccer Stadium Friday night.

Furman, 0-2-1 on the season, controlled possession through most of regulation outshooting the Cardinals 14-6. Louisville turned the momentum in overtime and outshot the Paladins 6-2. Furman held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks while Louisville, 2-1-1, was whistled for 25 fouls and Furman 22.

In the opening match of the tournament, Boyzzz Khumalo tallied two frist half goals and Jordie Hughes added three assists to guide Coastal Carolina to a 3-1 victory over Harvard.

Harvard scored first in the 11th minute. Nicholas Tornaritis took a cross from brother Anthony Tornaritis and beat Chanticleer keeper Aaron Weant to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead.

Khumalo recorded his first goal at the 16:20 mark taking a pass from Hughes a rocketing a shot by Harvard keeper Ryan Johnson from 16 yards out. Khumalo upped the lead to 2-1 at 28:02. Hughes' through ball found Khumalo who beat the charging keeper and scored from 12 yards.

Mubarike Chisoni capped the Chanticleers' scoring at 56:45 beating Johnson after one-time passes from Hughes and Khumalo for a 3-1 lead.

Coastal Carolina managed to win despite being outshot 16-7 by the Crimson. Coastal Carolina was forced to withstand heavy pressure from the Harvard attack in the final half hour after Coastal Carolina had a player sent off at 61:28.

The Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational concludes Sunday when 16th-ranked Coastal Carolina faces Louisville at 11:00 a.m. Harvard will face Furman in the tournament finale beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
