Macon, Ga. -- Three Paladins posted scores of par or better and two others shot one-over 73 as Furman carded a two-under par 286 to move up to fifth place during the second round of the Brickyard Collegiate Championship Monday at the Brickyard at Riverside.
Jonathan Bowden paced the Paladins with a two-under 70. The Easley, S.C., native birdied five holes to move into 26th entering the final round of the 54-hole tournament. Senior Ben Goforth jumped into a tie for 15th shooting a one-under par 71 to stand at two-under after 36 holes.
Chris Gilliland carded an even-par 72 while Matt Hayes and freshman Zach Lee managed to shoot one-over 73 in the second round. Lee, playing in his first collegiate tournament, was four-over through 11 holes before recording four birdies in the final seven holes to finish at one-over par.
Georgia (278-273=551) fired a 273 to take a two-stroke lead over Clemson (277-276=553) and 10-stroke edge over Georgia Tech (283-278=561) after 36 holes. South Carolina (290-284=574) moved to fourth and Furman (290-286=576) fifth entering Tuesday's final round action. Georgia's Brian Harman (68-66=134) shot a tournament-low 66 on Monday to take a two-stroke advantage into Tuesday.
The first annual Brickyard Collegiate Championship field includes three of the top 11 ranked teams in the nation, including last season's NCAA runner-up Georgia.
Final round action is slated to get underway Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
