GREENVILLE, S.C -- Furman Paladins free safety Thomas Twitty has been named Southern Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his performance in Saturday's 27-17 win over Coastal Carolina, the league has announced.
Twitty, a junior from Birmingham, Ala., in his first season as a starter, recorded a career high 17 tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception in helping Furman to the victory. He headlined a Paladin defensive unit that limited Coastal Carolina to only three points and 77 total yards in the second half, allowing Furman to overcome a 14-10 halftime deficit.
The 5-foot-11, 196-pound former Mountain Brook High School standout currently leads Furman 53 tackles through five games.
Furman plays arch-rival The Citadel this Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
