Franklin & Marshall in Seventh Place Through Day 2 at Centennial Conference Track Championships

WESTMINSTER, MD – Karen Ziga (Jr., Haverford, PA/Haverford), Meredith Janeczek (Jr., Hershey, PA/Hershey), Katie Byrne (Fr., Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg), Laura Lautenbacher (Jr., Langhorne, PA/Nazareth Academy) and the 4X800 meter relay team of Nikki Salenetri (Jr., Crosswicks, NJ/Northern Burlington), Johanna Jasinski (Fr., Lebanon, NH/Lebanon), Corie Johnson (Fr., Manchester, CT) and Byrne finished the among the top eight in their events as the Franklin & Marshall College women’s track & field team is seventh through day two at the 2006 Centennial Conference Championships hosted by McDaniel College.

Ziga placed second in the 10,000 meters in a time of 39:10.62 for eight team points, while Janeczek and Byrne finished fourth (11:35.70) and sixth (12:22.33), respectively, in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for five and three points. Further, the 4X800 relay finished sixth for three points as the distance squad combined for 19 points.

Lautenbacher added 3.5 points in the pole vault as she cleared 9’-00.25” to tie with Johns Hopkins University’s Jessica Reeves for fifth place as the four and three points for the fifth and sixth positions were split among the duo.

In other top finishes, Brittney Dhein (Sr., Telford, PA/Pennridge) qualified for the finals of the 200 meters by placing eighth in a preliminary time of 27.83, while Erin Gleason (Fr., Bayonne, NJ/Mount Saint Dominion) placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 29.76 meters.

Franklin & Marshall will conclude the Centennial Conference Championships on May 7 at McDaniel College.
