Freshmen Lead Diplomats at ITA Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Franklin & Marshall's freshman led the Diplomats at the ITA Southeast Regional hosted by Mary Washington this weekend. Doug Silverstein split a pair of matches in the Championship Draw. He defeated Evan Stiegel of Haverford in the round of 64 (6-2, 6-3), but was ousted from the bracket by ninth-ranked Brendan Kincaid from Salisbury (6-4, 6-2).

In the B3 Draw, Silverstein's classmate, Noah Bachow, posted a pair of wins to advance to the semifinals. Bachow knocked off Andrew Voshell (Elizabethtown) 6-2, 6-2, and Zach McGonigal (Mary Washington) 7-5, 7-5. Bachow was knocked from the bracket by Virginia Wesleyan's Steven Wright, 6-4, 6-0.

Freshmen Josh Calo and Paul Salierno, along with senior Brett Joseph each split a pair of matches in the B4 and B5 draws. Calo and Salierno teamed up in the Doubles B3 Draw to advance to the semifinals at the expense of Centennial Conference opponents. The tandem defeated Michal Switala and Derek Wise from Washington College, 8-4. They went on to down Jake Schneiders and Jason Williams from Johns Hopkins, 8-6. F&M's combination was edged in the semifinals by Grove City's Ricky Garrett and Mark Mentzer, 9-8 (5).
