Fordham's John Skelton Named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week

Center Valley, Pa. - Fordham University sophomore quarterback John Skelton (El Paso, Tex./Burges) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week it was announced today. This is the second Offensive Player of the Week award this fall for Skelton, who also earned the honor following the Colgate game on September 29th. Skelton becomes the sixth Ram to earn Patriot League Player of the Week honors in 2007, joining Isiejah Allen and Matt Loucks, who were each named Defensive Player of the Week earlier this fall, and Isa Abdul Quddus and Xavier Martin, who each earned Rookie of the Week honors, with Martin earning the award twice. In Fordham's 34-23 Patriot League win over Lafayette College in Easton on Saturday, Skelton completed 19 of 26 passes for a career-high 323 yards and two touchdowns, surpassing his previous career-high of 294 passing yards against Albany earlier this year. He also scored Fordham's opening touchdown on a one-yard run. After Lafayette closed the Fordham lead to 21-16 early in the third quarter, Skelton threw both of his touchdown passes later in the period to put Fordham in front, 34-16. He connected with Sylvester Clarke on a 37-yard touchdown pass and then threw a 51-yard touchdown to David Moore. On the year, Skelton has completed 144 of 256 passes for 1,783 yards and 16 touchdowns while also rushing for 199 yards and two scores on 64 carries. The 16 touchdown passes is the fifth best single season total in Fordham history while his 1,783 passing yards to date is the ninth best in school history. The Rams (6-2, 4-0) will next be in action on Saturday, October 27th, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, New York, for their final non-conference contest at Marist College at 7:00 PM. |
