FAU Volleyball Finishes A-Sun Play With 3-1 Win Over TSU

Nov. 3, 2001

Final Stats

After getting off to a slow start and losing the first game, Florida Atlantic University (10-13, 7-3 A-Sun) was able to pick up the intensity and take the next three games from Troy State University (9-12, 4-6 A-Sun) in the final Atlantic Sun Conference match of the season for both teams.

In game one, the Lady Owls were able to pick up more kills, digs and assists than their opponents but the Trojans out-blocked and had two more aces than FAU as they took game one from a disorganized FAU team.

Gracie Heim (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) took control of game two as she had five of her team-high 17 kills. Heim gave FAU the momentum they needed, after TSU tied the game at 20 she put down a kill from Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) to take the lead for good. FAU went on a 10-4 run to finish the game as Troy State committed four-straight attacking errors.

The Lady Owls only trailed for two points in the final two games to take the 24-30, 30-24, 30-21, 30-26 victory and close out the conference season.

Boyle returned to the lineup after sitting out two games with back spasms to tally 49 assists. Ashley Bodily lead the team defensively picking up 20 digs.

Troy State relied on the play of their middle hitters, Rachel Hassan and Holly Martin to keep them in the match. Hassan collected a match-high 18 kills and 20 digs to lead TSU.

Florida Atlantic will play three matches in three days as they take on Bethune-Cookman on Monday at 5 pm before traveling to Miami on Tuesday. They will return home for Senior night on Wednesday when they host Florida International.
