Softball Sweeps A-Sun Honors
May 5, 2003
BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University swept the weekly individual softball awards handed down by the Atlantic Sun Conference. On Monday, Amanda Morin was named A-Sun Pitcher-of-the-Week for the third consecutive week and the fourth time this season. In addition, Pam Mazzarella was named A-Sun Player-of-the-Week for the third time this season. Morin pitched a complete-game, 11-inning victory against Jacksonville State last Monday. She allowed one unearned run on seven hits while striking out nine. The win was her 10th straight and kept her a perfect 9-0 against A-Sun competition. Morin is 18-11 overall. Mazzarella went 2-for-4 against the Gamecocks. That included an RBI-single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to tie the game at 1-1. The two hits gave Mazzarella her 18th multiple-hit game of the season. Mazzarella is leading FAU with a .324 batting average and has hit .431 over the past 17 games. Morin's three straight weekly awards ties an FAU record held by Nikki Myers for most consecutive pitcher-of-the-week awards. Morin led the A-Sun with four such honors in 2003. Florida Atlantic is the no. 1 seed in this week's A-Sun Tournament, beginning Thursday in Troy, AL. The Lady Owls take on JSU Thursday at Noon EDT.
