Mazzarella Receives A-Sun Honor
April 29, 2002
Florida Atlantic University's Pam Mazzarella has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Player-of-the-Week. The freshman helped FAU to a 3-0 record last week by going 5-for-9 (.556) from the plate with seven RBIs and one home run. Mazzarella, who plays first base for the Lady Owls, had hits in all three games, including a 2-for-4 performance in game one of a doubleheader at Stetson last Tuesday that included a three-run homer and five RBIs. She also went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs last Thursday in a win against Lynn University. On the year, Mazzarella is hitting .300 for the FAU and leads the team with 45 RBIs. She becomes the fourth Lady Owl this year to win the award. Ginny Matthews has won it twice while Callie Piper and Nikki Myers have also been honored. Florida Atlantic (55-8) is currently ranked no. 10 in the nation and no. 1 in the South Region. The team leads the nation in wins and closes out its home schedule Wednesday night at 7:00pm against Florida International. Friday's game against Lynn, originally scheduled for 7:00pm, has been canceled.
