Owls Break Program Shutout Record

Oct. 15, 2005

Box Score

BOCA RATON, FL -- Denise Brolly scored a pair of goals to lead the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team past Mercer, 2-0 on senior night.

In the 40th minute, Brolly broke a scoreless tie with a shot off a cross from Susanna Lehtinen, beating the keeper in the upper-left corner of the goal.

She would add her second goal on a free kick just outside the top of the box, where fellow senior Danielle DiLeo had been fouled.

Katri Nokso-Koivisto had a strong scoring chance of her own, but was turned away by Bears' keeper Fio Lanfranco.

The Owls allowed just two shots on goal, both in the second half. Megan Coyne got the start and extended her shutout streak to 525 minutes, lowering her NCAA-best goals-against-average to 0.12. Jessica Badders played the second half and made a pair of stops.

The shutout broke the school record of shutouts in one season. The previous mark was 11, set in 2002.

FAU (12-3-1, 7-0-1) now faces perhaps its toughest pair of games in the final week of the regular season. The Owls will face Kennesaw State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and will travel to ETSU to close out the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m.
