Shontavia Williams Named Co-A-Sun Player of the Week

March 1, 2006

Boca Raton, FL - Heading into the final week of regular-season competition, Florida Atlantic University's women's basketball team has placed the hopes of capturing the program's first A-Sun Title squarely on the shoulders of its seniors. The three seniors responded with two outstanding performance last week to send the Owls on the road where they will face off against both Lipscomb and Belmont, who is currently tied with FAU for first place and the tournament's top seed.

While it will take a team effort to capture the crown, Shontavia Williams has earned co-A-Sun Player of the Week honors for her efforts in placing FAU in control of their destiny.

Williams led the Owls to a 2-0 mark last week and recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds to help lift the Owls into a tie for first place with a 70-64 victory over Gardner-Webb. Down the stretch, Williams was a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe added two assists and a blocked shot. The 15 points marked the 21st time she has scored in double digits this season.

Two nights later she follow-up her performance by scoring a season-high 26 points and raked in six rebounds in her final game played before an FAU crowd, in the Owls 74-58 victory over Campbell. She capped off her amazing career at "The Burrow" by shooting 12-of -16 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also had two assists and one steal.

The Miami native totaled 41 points and 16 rebounds for her week's work.
