Men's Soccer team clinches A-Sun tournament bid with 3-2 win over Campbell University.

Buies Creek, NC - Buies Creek, NC Florida Atlantic men's soccer team clinches A-Sun tournament bid with 3-2 win over Campbell University.

FAU opened the scoring at the 22:15 mark of the first half on a goal by junior Frans Roenning. The goal was Roenning's sixth of the season and was assisted by sophomore Bjorn Masson. Campbell tied the score with just under five minutes remaining in the half on a goal by Jason Kirk.

FAU took control of the match in the second half by scoring two goals and then hanging on for the win. Sophomore defender Borge Sandsund scored his first goal of the season off a header on a free kick to give the Owls a 2-1 lead. Masson was again credited with his second assist of the match and fourth of the season. Freshman Kristjan Masson scored the eventual game winner at the 77:04 mark of the second half with an unassisted goal. The goal was Kristjan Masson's second of the season.
 

 

Campbell pulled to within one goal by scoring at the 81:03 mark. Shea Geyer was able to head a ball past FAU goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad to make it 3-2 with under nine minutes to play. Campbell continued to push but could not tie the game. Campbell outshot FAU 16-12 for the game.

With the win FAU moves to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the A-Sun conference. Campbell drops to 3-11-1 and 0-5-1 in the conference.

FAU finished in a three way tie for fourth place in the conference with UCF and Georgia State. FAU advances to the conference tournament based on head-to-head play with the other two schools, beating both of them.

The conference tournament will be held November 16-17 in Macon, Georgia. Opponents and times will be announced at a later date.

The Owls will be home Sunday November 4, at 1pm, when they host Binghamton University to conclude the regular season.
