Charleston Southern outlasts Florida Atlantic 4-3 in men's soccer

Oct. 27, 2001

Orlando, FL - Orlando, Fl Stijepko Tokic scored two goals, including the game-winner, to help lead Charleston Southern University past Florida Atlantic University in men's soccer action at the UCF Arena Soccer Field.

The Owls started out strong and scored 4:43 into the match when sophomore Henrik Salveson accepted a pass from junior Preben Nilsen to put FAU up 1-0. Thirty-minutes later, the Buccaneers replied and tied the game at 1-1 after Tom Magoffin's powerful shot from 10 yards out went under senior Jonas Kolstad and into the FAU goal. Once again, the Owls took control of the game. Senior midfielder Pablo Luna sent a through ball to Eli Bell who beat Charleston Southern's keeper Adam Laney to give the Owls a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

The Buccaneers came out firing away in the second half as they scored three unanswered goals to soar to a 4-2 lead. Brendon Barry tied the match at 2-2 in the 60th minute, before Tokic redirected a pass from George Grygar past Kolstad for the 3-2 lead three minutes later. Tokic made it 4-2 in the 75th minute, after converting on a Magoffin cornerkick. Salveson scored his second goal of the day on a pass from Luna with five minutes to play, but it was too late as Charleston Southern held on for the win.

The Buccaneers outshot the Owls 20-16. Jonas Kolstad made eight stops for the game.

With the loss FAU drops to 5-10 overall. Charleston Southern improves to 4-9.
