FAU Inks Green to a New Contract
June 24, 2002 Sidney Green has signed a new contract with Florida Atlantic University, announced Tom Cargill, FAU's Athletics Director. "I'm extremely pleased Sidney is on-board and I look forward to another great year of FAU basketball," said Cargill. "Sidney and I have come to an agreement that is beneficial to all concerned. The stage is now set to continue building FAU basketball into one of the top up-and-coming basketball programs in the country." Green became Florida Atlantic's fourth head coach in March 1999. The 10-year NBA veteran began his efforts and accepted the task of taking FAU to the next level. A level achieved during the 2001-2002 season, which saw the Owls post a 19-12 record and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's short 13 year history.
"I'm very happy the university and I have come to a mutual agreement," said Green. "Most importantly, we can now start preparing for the upcoming season with the intentions of duplicating and /or improving on last year's NCAA Tournament run."
