Jan. 11, 2005

Final Stats

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University squandered an eight-point lead with 1:20 left as Jacksonville University rallied for an 82-81 victory Tuesday night at FAU Gymnasium in Boca Raton. David Lee's three-pointer with 4.6 seconds remaining turned out to be the winning bucket as FAU fell to 3-10 overall and 3-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Mike Bell led FAU with a game-high 24 points. Lee had 23 for JU, including nine in the final 1:15.

FAU led most of the night and took a 54-41 lead with 16:14 to play on a pair of Bell free throws. JU (6-7, 2-4 A-Sun) pecked away at the lead and pulled to within 58-56 on a Lee trey at the 12:10 mark.

The Owls stretched it back to a 75-65 lead with 5:22 remaining on a Bell jumper. FAU led 81-73 with 1:20 left after a pair of Quinton Young free throws before JU began its winning run. Lee hit a three with 1:15 left and again 40 seconds later to make it 81-79. After two FAU turnovers, Lee sank his final trey with 4.6 seconds left. FAU turned the ball over in its final possession.

JU shot 52 percent compared to FAU's 43 percent. Robert Williams added a season-high 15 points off the bench in 12 minutes of action. Williams also grabbed four rebounds to give him 503 for his career. Rodney Webb scored 12, and Tywain McTyer scored a season-high 11. FAU shot 25-for-31 from the line.

Florida Atlantic next faces UCF Thursday night at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30pm as the game will be televised live on Sunshine Network.
