FITCHBURG, MA - Endicott College got an early goal from junior midfielder Jennifer Beech (Devonshire, Bermuda/Saltas Grammar) and went on to defeat host Fitchburg State, 3-0, Thursday night in non-conference field hockey action at Elliot Field.
The Gulls improved to 8-3 overall with the victory while Fitchburg dropped to 2-10 overall with the loss. Beech opened the scoring in the 17th minute when she took a corner from junior midfielder Michelle Berard (Ashland, MA/Ashland) and beat FSC goaltender Emily Creen (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) to the low far side with a nice shot.
The game went into halftime with Endicott ahead 1-0, but the Gulls doubled the lead on an unassisted tally by Samantha Bourgeois (Gardner, MA/Gardner) at the 52:04 mark. Bourgeois wrapped up the scoring with her second goal in the 67th minute of action.
EC freshman netminder Angela Ziogas (Pelham, NH/Pelham) finished with three saves for the win while FSC's Creen made three saves in the loss and Taylor Begin (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) played the final 11 minutes in goal for the Falcons, allowing one goal.
