Stats

EC defeated Anna Maria College 3-2 in a scrappy CCC game held in Paxton, MA. The Gulls improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in CCC play, while Anna Maria drops to 2-7 and 1-2 in CCC play.

EC started slowly in the first half. Just 12 minutes and 47 seconds into play, EC allowed Anna Maria to take the 1-0 lead with a goal scored by AMC's forward Suzanne Yanovitch. EC battled back and the Gulls capitalized on an offensive penalty corner. The assist came from Jennifer Rheaume, who found sophomore Caitlin Murray off the left post who deflected the shot past AMC's goalkeeper Rachel Braier. Murray's goal tied up the game with six minutes left in the first half.

The game remained tied until 17 minutes and 47 seconds into the second half when senior forward Jen McCormack scored the go-ahead goal on another assist from Rheaume. Rheaume crossed the ball in front of the net where McCormack was able to cut in front of the AMC's defense to knock it in. EC's third goal developed out of a passing combination with Kim Doody and Jennifer Rheaume. Rheaume was able to redirect a pass from Doody into the back of the net pushing EC ahead 3-1.

EC dominated the second half of this hard-fought game, out shooting AMC 14-2. A yellow card was issued to Holley Wrightson of AMC for dangerous play in the circle. AMC attempted a come back when Yanovitch scored again with 6 minutes and 50 seconds left in the game. However, the Gulls' defense held AMC scoreless for the remainder of the game. EC's goalkeeper Erin Curry tallied a total of seven saves.

EC field hockey will return to action October 5th at EC's Tupper Field. The Gulls will face Nichols College at 4pm for their fourth CCC contest of the season.
