WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Williams College held Endicott to its lowest point total of the season as the Ephs downed the Gulls, 65-49, in the finals of the Williams' Holiday Classic on Sunday afternoon in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
The Williams' College defense came to play early in the contest as the Gulls failed to post their first points of the game until the 14:43 mark of the first half. Endicott did not tally a field goal until six minutes into play.
Williams opened the game on a 6-0 run, and appeared to be in control of the contest, building a thirteen point lead with 3:55 left in the opening half. The Gulls responded with an 11-4 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) to cut the Ephs' lead to just six.
Following a Williams' timeout, the home team's Elizabeth Hansen (Chicago, IL/Latin School) nailed a clutch shot with her toes on the three-point line to give Williams a 30-24 lead at half.
The tone was set for the second frame as Mika Peterman (Los Altos, CA/Castilleja) drained a shot from downtown to open play. The Ephs continued to attack on offense, mounting a 17-6 run in the first five minutes of the second stanza. A lay in by Dominique de la Torre (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) with 8:30 left in regulation brought the score to 58-39, capping off the largest lead of the night at nineteen.
In an attempt to chip away at the Williams' lead, Endicott took several three-pointers down the stretch. However the Gulls only managed to connect on 3-of-17 from behind the arc. The Ephs' defense was particularly strong, holding Endicott to just 30.4 perfect from the floor on the day.
Senior captain Dominique de la Torre was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as she finished the weekend with a 15 point, three block and four steal afternoon against Endicott. Junior captain Mika Peterman and rookie Taylor Shea (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) were also named to the All-Tournament team. Peterman scored 17 points in both games this weekend, while Shea tallied 21 points on Saturday and 12 points on Sunday. The freshman starter was just one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double with 9 boards.
Endicott's Nicole Duchesne was named to the All-Tournament squad as well as she paced the Blue and Green with 13 points. Ceciley Chisholm (Lexington, MA/Lexington) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, while also chipping in eight points in the loss.
The setback lowers the Gulls' overall record to 3-2 (0-0 TCCC). Endicott returns to action on Thursday, December 6th as they will play host to non-conference foe Bridgewater State at 6:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
