Led by freshman forward Holly Beth Wojcik, the Endicott Gulls defeated the Regis Pride, 59-45, today in Weston, MA. Wojcik dominated in the paint pouring in 18 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and tallying 3 blocks to lead the Gulls to their 5th consecutive win, improving their record to 11-11 (8-6 in the conference).
The Gulls and the Pride traded baskets for the first 5 minutes before the Gulls took the lead for good (10-8) on a basket by Wojcik with 14:36 on the clock. The Gulls then extended the lead to 8 (20-12) on free throw by freshman Carly Haynes with 8:05 on the clock, but were unable to shake the Pride, whose solid team play kept them close. Poor free throw shooting didn't help the Gulls, and the score at the half read 28-24.
The Gulls kept attacking in the 2nd half going to the foul line 13 times, (9-13) and slowly extending their lead to finish the game 59-45.
Senior Jenn Grace and sophomore Jodi Brown joined Wojcik in double digits with 11 and 10 apiece. Senior Morgan Milowsky continued to lead the Gull attack, dishing out 5 assists and pressuring the ball all game long. 10 of the 12 Gulls who played scored.
Sophomore Danielle Doherty (10), Melissa Gonzalez (9), Erin Campbell (8) and junior Carolyn Cox (8) led a well-balanced Pride attack. Doherty also recorded 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The Gulls are on the road again Tuesday versus Eastern Nazarene. Tip-off time is 6pm.
