BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College held Eastern Nazarene College to just two field goals in the second half, as the Gulls notched their seventh straight win, 77-38 over the Crusaders in Beverly, MA on Tuesday night.
Endicott was once again able to get off to a strong start, as the Blue and Green opened the game on an early 15-0 run. Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) got the Gulls going as the 5-10 sophomore cut her way through the Crusader defense for a strong two points. On the ensuing inbounds play, it was Duchesne again as she intercepted the misguided Eastern Nazarene pass for the hoop and the foul, putting the Gulls up 13.
Ceciley Chisholm (Lexington, MA/Lexington) sent the home team into the dressing room with a 16 point lead, as her strong defense was rewarded on the offensive end where she connected on a pull-up jumper, putting Endicott up 35-19 at the break.
Endicott continued to pour it on in the second frame, as the Gulls forced a total of 31 Eastern Nazarene turnovers on the evening. The Blue and Green caught fire from behind the arc, as Endicott shot six-of-10 from deep in the second half. Kaylin Burke (Leominster, MA/Leominster) buried back-to-back three pointers at the twelve-minute mark of the second stanza to push Endicott's lead to 41 points, 67-26. It was easy sailing for the Gulls down the stretch, as they took the 77-38 conference victory.
The Gulls dominated on the glass, as Endicott held an impressive 46-38 rebounding advantage. The Endicott defense held the Crusaders to 9-for-44 shooting (20.5%) on the evening.
Endicott was paced by Duchesne's 12 points and five steals, while freshman Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) dropped in 11 and picked up five rebounds in the win. Ceciley Chisholm had a well-rounded night as the freshman forward had six points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Eastern Nazarene was led by Rebecca Welch's (Norton, MA/New Testament Christian) game-high 23 points on 7-of-22 shooting from the floor.
With the win, Endicott improves to 14-6 overall and 11-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Next up for Endicott is the much anticipated CCC rematch with Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday evening in Beverly, MA. The Chargers handed Endicott their only conference loss all season, 64-59 on January 20th in New London, NH. The rematch tips at 6:00 PM at the MacDonald Gymnasium.
